Baseball, Softball, T-Ball
Monroe's children play in the 3 Rivers League, comprised of Barnet, Peacham, Monroe, and surrounding areas.   We normally have enough players to form "Monroe-only" teams, so that children are playing with classmates and friends.  Teams start with T-Ball for ages 5 & 6, move into "Minor Baseball & Softball" for ages 7-10, and then into "Major Baseball & Softball", ages 11-12.   For more info, go to the 3 Rivers website, or click here to download the form.   You can return it to the Monroe School Office or Town Library.   There's also great news for boys 13-15 on the 3 Rivers website, check it out!    Note:  2010 registrations are due by MARCH 25th or you will incur a $5 late fee per child - which the town will NOT cover!

Cub Scouts

Cub Scouting is a year round family program for boys in Grades 1-5.   It promotes character, family ties, spiritual growth, and fosters values such as citizenship, teamwork, perseverance, and pride in doing your personal best.     Check out our website for more info.   We also connect with an active Boy Scout Troop for boys 12 and up, and can help you with more information for older boys.

The Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains serve NH & Vermont.  Girls ages 5-17 are encouraged to develop their leadership potential thru activities that enable them to discover their values, skills and world around them; connect with others; and to take action to make a difference in their community and their world.  For more info, call Donna Thompson, Membership Manager, 444-0038, or visit our website.

Active 4H Club with programs in gardening, textiles/design, rocketry, posters, and more.    Club meets at Town Hall first Monday of each month at 6:30 pm.    We are part of Grafton County 4H, which runs many county-wide programs listed here.    For more information or to join, call Michelle Norko, 638-2428.

General Interest

Garden Club
The Monroe Garden Club meets every 4th Wednesday of the month at the Town Library (but not typically in the depths of winter!)    In addition to sharing their love of gardening, they also plant and maintain the park in the center of town, and the welcome sign for the Village.    Contact the Library for more information.

The Back Shed String Band
One of Monroe's 'hidden gems', this acoustic group gathers most Friday nights in, literally, a shed at the back of a house on Plains Road (roughly across from where Coppermine Road meets Plains Road.)    They play bluegrass, folk, and "Americana".  Check out their MySpace page or stop by on a Friday night and enjoy.    Free, laid back, and fun.

Bone Builders

Designed to improve balance and strength with both hand and leg weights, this group meets Mondays & Thursdays in the Town Hall Basement at 8:30 am, and costs just $1 per week.   For men and women who'd like to stay strong.   More info here.

"Taking Off Pounds Sensibly" will be meeting at the Library on Thursday nights at 6 pm.  Fees are just $26 per year and $3 per month - a whole lot less expensive than Weight Watchers and right here in town.   For men and women who want to lose weight and then keep it off.   More info, call Barb Frost, 638-4416, or visit tops.org.
