By the time Harvest Festival started there were close to 3 dozen scarecrows up around Monroe. A few even made it down to the school grounds for the festivities on Saturday.
Gene Puffer, founder of WYKR radio and Monroe resident, graciously announced the parade for us. Thank you, Gene! Rain or no rain, we still managed to enjoy speed sign races, the bounce house, hay bale treasure hunt, face painting, sack races, lots of crafts, ping pong - both regular and the fish kind! - 3-legged races, hayrides, and of course, the pie eating contest! The Fire Department trained our next generation of volunteers, and the Men's Club served up a great lunch for only 75 cents!
Gloria Moore's slates were amazing - each one says "MCS '31" somewhere on the slate to commemorate the year the school was built (and the slates went up on the roof.) Esther Chase's slates were beautiful, and so was an entry from Sue Miner. Our children showed their artistic talents as well, with lots of Monroe School colors showing up throughout their work.
And thank you to all our local vendors, crafts people, and dessert bakers who helped make the day so enjoyable for everyone. Chowder and chili, under the tent, with the Back Shed String Band. We served over 100 people under the tent, and no one minded the rain.
The "Moose" of Humor came to Monroe Town Hall on Friday night, October 2nd, to share stories about life in New Hampshire. Or, as Becky pronounces it, "New Hampshuh." Close to 100 people enjoyed her stories, the free refreshments, and each other's company. The general consensus seemed to be: more events like this, please!
